Patient Care Training ~ Fall 2008

Experience the satisfaction of making a difference in the lives of others as you provide emotional support, companionship or respite care for individuals dealing with life threatening illness or loss, by becoming a patient care volunteer with Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice. A ten week training is being offered this Fall.

Those interested in attending the training are asked to contact Adriana Torres, Community Outreach Coordinator, by September 4 at (630) 232-2233 ext. 227 for an application and to schedule an interview. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided for Spanish speaking individuals.

The schedule is as follows:

Evening Training:

Day: Thursday

Time: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Dates: Starts on Thursday, September 25 through November 20

Location: Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice

Architecture Scholarship ~ FULL RIDE

Syracuse University has 10 Full Rides for African American Men and Women
interested in Studying Architecture. Mark Robbins, Dean of Syracuse University's School of Architecture is seeking young men and women of color interested in pursuing a five year professional degree in Architecture. He is deeply committed to bringing diversity to field of architecture and has scholarship money set aside to fully cover education costs for 10 students.


Syracuse University 's School of Architecture has a great reputation and this is a a terrific opportunity.

Nursing Program ~ FREE TUITION
If you know of anyone between 18-28 years old, interested in the Nursing Field, the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is offering FREE Tuition, FREE books, a $250 monthly stipend, and guaranteed job placement as a nurse at Providence Hospital upon graduation (it's a 3year program) with a starting salary of $40,000.

Better Love Yourself

Terisa Griffin's "Better Love Yourself" Trunk Scholarship Event will be held in Chicago at the Green Dolphin Restaurant from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.  She will be providing trunk scholarships for African American girls who will be heading off to college this Fall.  The trunks will include everything a college Freshman will need to "live" on her own (comforter, sheets, detergent, deodorant, lotion, etc.).  The scholarship application can be downloaded from www.BetterLoveYourself.com.   The event will include a brunch, speakers spa activities including mini pedicures, manicures, eyelashes, hair extensions etc. and finally a concert by Terisa Griffin with an opening act by a local performer.

About the Award

The Western Illinois University Black Alumni Committee Scholarship Award is intended to financially assist deserving, qualified, African American Western Illinois University students. The minimum scholarship award is $250 per candidate. Scholarship recipients will be invited to the Annual Western Illinois University Black Tie Affair held each year in February.
