Referrals, on-site evaluations and case management services are available to the employed, under-employed and unemployed. The program assists individuals in skill assessment, job training and placement, resume development, interview tactics, and career counseling. Workplace ethics training is also available. E.A.R. offers data entry, word processing and basic office skills training. Workshops and seminars are held regularly for career exploration and employability skill development.
Referral Assistance Program
This advocacy program assists and refers troubled individuals to appropriate agencies and addresses grievance and discrimination complaints relating to employment, housing, health, and education.
Rental Assistance
In emergency situations, The Quad County Urban League Rental Assistance program can help qualified families and individuals meet their outstanding monthly housing mortgage or rent obligation. Applicants may qualify for financial assistance that is payable directly to a landlord or mortgage company. In order to qualify for assistance, applicants should have received a five day notice or notice of foreclosure for mortgage payments in the arrears.
Educational and Vocational Training
Aurora Middle School Academy (AMSA)
Certified teachers provide middle school students with an alternative-learning environment to manage academic, social and behavioral challenges. Geared towards students who have been suspended from their home schools, AMSA partners with School District 129 and 131.
Peer Mentor Program
Peer Mentors from the TSTM program work with younger students in Indian Prairie School District #204 to provide an outlet for discussing and solving issues that are particular to minority students in that District. Students participate in educational seminars on test preparation, proper study skills, teenage etiquette and the handling of peer pressure.
H.I.P. H.O.P. (Homework in Progress, Helping Other People) Tutoring
This program is an after-school tutoring program for students in K5- 12th grade. Hip Hop also introduces 5th and 6th graders to the basics of the computer and network usage through the Computer Lab.
The program provides direction and motivation to minority high school and middle school students who are high achievers in English, Science and Mathematics. TSTM exposes students to various fields while also offering tutoring sessions, field trips, supervised projects and summer internships. TSTM also offers scholarship opportunities for participants who successfully complete the program.
Project Ready
Project Ready provides the following services to students in secondary education: Informational experiences that will assist in your students transition to college; Academic support to improve your GPA; Peer mentoring and leadership experiences; Workshops focused on academic excellent; PSAT/SAT/ACT testing preparation; Motivational speakers; Scholarship opportunities; and College tours both in and out of state.
Computer Training Lab
The training lab offers free basic computer classes and free Internet access. Computer training classes are offered throughout the year for individuals who are interested in enhancing or updating computer skills and/or learning new skills.
YouthBuild (YB)
YouthBuild provides job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24 while constructing or rehabilitating affordable housing for low-income or homeless families in their own neighborhoods. Youth split their time between the construction sites and the classroom, where they earn their GED, learn to be community leaders, and prepare for college and other post secondary training opportunities.
Youth Employment Services (YES)
YES affords eligible youth exposure to the world of work and to the team approach in a work environment. Participants learn techniques to solve challenges and differences of opinion. These skills increase participants' self-esteem, help them to improve their social skills and increase their employability. The program encourages school completion, strong academic performance and builds citizenship awareness. YES is open to students and youth between the ages of 14 to 21 who reside in Kane County.
Urban Youth Empowerment Program (UYEP)
As a "second chance" program, the Urban Youth Empowerment Program strives to encourage Aurora youth to take responsibility for themselves and their community. This apprenticeship program for young adults is dedicated to developing leadership skills and civic awareness through education, employment and community service.
